Barbara Esmonde, chef/owner of Barbara’s on the Bay in Betterton, sits down with Kent Pilot’s Steve Meehan to discuss her COVID-19 summer experience and plans for the fall and winter.

When Esmonde was last interviewed, she discussed receiving the 2020 What’s Up? Eastern Shore awards for best Waterfront Dining and American fare just before the arrival of the COVID-19 stay-at-home orders and restrictions restaurant dining.

After COVID-19 reopening, Barbara’s on the Bay offered diners indoor and outdoor dining this summer. The summer dining season has ended.

Esmonde is now rebooting her operations for fall and winter, suspending the regular dining schedule, but open for pop-up dining events. Her main focus is now on pickup and delivery.

Starting September 16, Barbara’s on the Bay returns from her Labor Day break to ramp up her pickup service in Betterton and home delivery. She has secured a pickup location at the upper parking lot of Todd’s Body Shop on Morgnec Road to better accommodate her Chestertown customers. She intends to establish other drop off locations as well.

Esmonde also discusses her COVID-19 business survival philosophy.
