The Chestertown Council will hear Ward 3 Councilman Ellsworth Tolliver introduce an ordinance tonight (06-2020)  to establish a Human Rights Commission in Chestertown.

The proposal was born in Resolution 03-2020, also authored by Tolliver, and passed the council unanimously on Sept. 8. The resolution cleared the way for introduction of a human rights commission ordinance.

If passed, the Commission will consist of seven residents with a minimum of four People of Color constituting a majority.

Among the Commission’s core responsibilities:

“…make necessary recommendations toward the effort of resolving allegations of discrimination in employment, housing, education, recreation and others human relation areas by Town agencies and by businesses.”
