To deal with the COVID-19 crisis, Del. Jay Jacobs, R-Kent, just home from a truncated session of the Maryland General Assembly, said he will call on University of Maryland Shore Regional Health to reactivate beds that were shuttered at Chester River Hospital in recent years.

Shore Health currently operates 12 beds but in past years operated a 60-bed facility. Jacobs believes the ability exists to bring the capacity up quickly.

He also called on Kent Countians to practice the guidelines laid out by Gov. Larry Hogan and the Kent County Health Department to reduce the risk of further transmission.  He encouraged residents to be mindful of the county’s large elderly population and refrain from hoarding.
