Arvell Andrew Thomas, Sr., 90 years young, of Rock Hall, Maryland, departed this life on September 24, 2020, at his residence. He was the son of the late Edward and Mary Ellen Jones Thomas, of Chestertown, Maryland.
Arvell was educated in the Kent County School System. He worked at Vita Food for a short period and then was employed as a Laborer in Local 199 at the Getty Oil Refinery, in Delaware City, Delaware, until he retired, in 1992, after 30 years of service.
Arvell Sr. was married to the late Nora Louise Scott Thomas, for 64 years. From that union, they had four children.
Arvell, “Pop-Pop”, enjoyed the many family gatherings, such as: birthday celebrations, campouts, holiday barbeques and Thanksgiving dinners, of which he did most of the cooking. He especially enjoyed playing Uno, dancing and listening to his music.
In his later life, Pop-Pop dedicated his life to Christ, which led him in joining Aaron Chapel. Shortly after he joined, The Inspirational Men of Aaron, a male chorus, was formed. Arvell loved the local performing and touring the group did. He loved serving his church and his church family. He was a strong 100% supporter. There was no time when Pop-Pop was called upon to serve that he did not answer, whether it be peeling potatoes in preparation of a supper, to helping the contractors during the church repairs. He was currently serving as a Trustee. He was laying the foundation so that at the end of this journey, he would be home with the Lord.
Mr. Thomas was preceded in death by his parents; siblings; his wife and daughter.
Mr. Thomas leaves to cherish his memories, his children, Rita Phillips of Quakers Neck, MD, Gloria Thomas of Philadelphia, PA, Arvell Thomas, Jr. of Rock Hall and Gabrielle Thomas of Newark, DE. He also leaves 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; a devoted nephew, William Blake; family friend, Toris Ransom; along with a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mr. Thomas was laid to rest on October 3, 2020 at Aaron Chapel, Rock Hall.
