Bette Jane Blackiston McDaniel of Rock Hall, Maryland passed away February 19, 2021 at Compass Regional Hospice in Centreville, Maryland. She was 83 years old.

Born in Rock Hall, Maryland in 1937. Mrs. McDaniel was the daughter of the late Mr. Noble and Ottilia Plitt Blackiston.

A 1957 graduate of the Rock Hall High School. She was Valedictorian of her class. She attended University of Maryland and later Chesapeake College. She worked with Lehigh and Tenaco chemical companies, Mercantile Bank in Baltimore, and Bata Shoe Company in Hartford County before coming back to Rock Hall to pursue her gift of healing and mercy as a care giver at Corsica Hills Nursing Home for 29 years. She later worked for 10 years for private agencies. She raised her niece, Charlotte Reihl.

Bette Jane was a faithful member of the Rock Hall United Methodist Church. In her early years she taught the youth Sunday School class. She enjoyed Bible Studies and going to lunch with the church ladies. She was a member of the Women of Faith in the Salem and St. James Church, the Rock Hall Alumni Association, and Old Kent Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was also a faithful member of Rock Steady Boxing in Kent Island, The Parkinson Support, and Cancer Support groups in Chestertown. Bette Jane enjoyed swimming, reading (especially her bible), crocheting, and spending time with family and friends. She was a participant in the Sun Downers group at the Rock Hall Beach.

She was predeceased by her parents and 3 sisters and 4 brother in laws: Annette and

Bill Wolford, Etta and Bill Watkins, Charlotte and James Anders, and John Foreman. She is survived by her sisters: Jean Foreman of Chestertown, MD and Ave Maria Clothier (Bill) of Lusby, MD, 3 nephews, 4 nieces, and several grand & great-grand nieces and nephews.

Services will be held on Sunday, February 28, 2021 at 2:00 PM at Fellows, Helfenbein, and Newnam Funeral Home 130 Speer Road Chestertown where relatives and friends may call from 1:00-2:00PM. Interment will be in Wesley Chapel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Rock Hall United Methodist Church 5730 Main Street Rock Hall, MD 21661 or Compass Regional Hospice 160 Coursevall Rd. Centreville, MD 21617.
