Danya Clendening Kresge, beloved wife and mother, passed away peacefully on May 13, 2021 at Hope Hospice Home with her husband Robert by her side.
Born on March 5, 1945 in Las Vegas, NV to Dan and Thelma Clendening, Danya grew up in Ridley Park, PA, where she attended Ridley Park HS. After earning her management degree from Wesley College, she began a career with Atlas Power and FMC corporations.
She spent summers on the beach in Lewes, DE, and on her father’s boat, “Danya II”, touring and fishing the Chesapeake Bay with her family. She developed a life-long love of sun, sand, and water.
On one particular summer’s day in 1966, while out for a day of boating the Chesapeake with her best friend, their boat broke down. Two young men, likewise enjoying a day on the water, came to their rescue and towed them back to the marina. A serendipitous, fairy-tale moment which would bring a lifetime of joy, laughter, and love to two people. “She chased him until he caught her,” and after a two year courtship, and the approval of her father, Danya and her rescuer, Robert Kresge, wed on July 20, 1968 in Wilmington, DE.
Danya and Robert (Bob) soon started a family and she began a new career as an unwavering and devoted wife and mother. She cherished life and loved her family, enjoying boating, fishing, and gathering with friends. Ever seeking their perpetual summer, they retired to Chestertown, MD and Cape Coral, FL.
Always ready with an easy smile, Danya possessed a fearless perseverance and the ability to ease other’s pain even when she was the one in need. She will be remembered in our hearts always and forever.
She is survived by her husband Robert, her son Darrell and his wife Diann, her son Brian and his wife Mandy, and her grandchildren Robert and Annabelle.
A celebration of her life will be held at Fellows, Helfenbein, and Newnam Funeral Home in Chestertown, MD on May 22, 2021, beginning at 12:00 pm, followed by her being laid to rest in St. Paul’s Kent Parish.
