Remembering Judy Hagerty

Judith Marie Ann Ott Hagerty (Judy), 73, of Rock Hall, passed away at Corsica Hills Nursing Center on March 31, 2021.

Judy was born on June 3, 1947 to Dr. Earl M. Ott and Virginia Jones Ott at the Marine Corps Air Station, Cherry Point, NC. Upon release from active service, the Ott family returned to Avon Lake, OH, where Judy attended St. Joseph’s Catholic School followed by St. Augustine Academy in Cleveland. After completing high school, Judy started training as a Radiology Technician at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Lorain, OH and upon certification, worked at Cleveland Metropolitan Hospital until 1969 when she married her husband, George.

In 1970, Judy and George were posted to Bremerhaven, Germany for three years and then to the Naval Technical Training Center in Pensacola, FL. After Florida, they moved to the Naval Air Station in Memphis, TN and then on to Edzell, Scotland for three years. While George was at sea for a year, Judy and the children moved back to Avon Lake where she worked at Lorain General Hospital. Their next assignment was to Patch Barracks in Stuttgart, Germany for three years, after which they moved back to the U.S. when George was assigned to Fort Meade, MD.

While living in Howard County, Judy worked as a Radiology Technician at the Columbia Medical Plan and specialized in Mammography. She was a founding member of the Mammography Association of Maryland.

In 1997, the family moved to Rock Hall, MD and Judy started her own firm, Mammography Accreditation Consultants, which afforded her the opportunity to travel throughout the United States assisting hospitals and clinics with accreditation of their radiologic equipment. Judy also worked as the lead Mammography Technician at the Kent and Queen Anne’s Hospital until she retired in 2014.

Although never having served in the military, Judy was a Navy wife for the first 18 years of her marriage and later served 23 years with the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary and two years with the Rock Hall Volunteer Fire Company Auxiliary. Judy was a Cantor at St. John’s Catholic Church in Rock Hall and Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Chestertown. Judy loved music, reading, and travel, but was most content when surrounded by her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband of 51 years, George; three children, Robert C. Morton (Lisa) of Alexandria, VA, Gahan M. Hagerty (Lisa) of Stafford, VA, and Brigid Hagerty Reale (Stephen) of Cascais, Portugal; and four grandchildren, Sol R. Carlson of Atlanta, GA, Jace Hagerty Reale of Cascais, Portugal, and Lochlan N.
