Morris E. Walker

Morris E. Walker, better known as “Chris”to his friends and “uncle Ment” to his family,

Was born on March 11, 1936 to the late Morris E. Walker Sr. and Cecelia Gibson Walker. He was married Mary Brown Walker on December 23, 1960.

He was a cement finisher for Local 199 for 40 years. An Active member of Mt. Olive AME Church from childhood into adult hood.

He was the father of Mt. Olive, the oldest male member of the church, served as President of the Trustee Board and a member of the Men’s Choir. His love of gospel music inspired him to form the Heavenly Echo’s Gospel Group who sang at the local churches spreading the gospel in song. The Heavenly Echo’s and the Five Stars of Colemans Maryland joined and formed the Sensational Star. They sang all over Maryland, Delaware, Virginia, Pennsylvania and New Jersey. He sang for 30 years until his sickness prevented him from traveling, but that did not stop his singing. He would often go from room to room singing gospel songs to the patients and staff.

He is survived by his wife Mary; four children – Morris E. III (Diane) of Chestertown, Gordon (Robin) , Richard and Vivian Swinson of Butlertown. Nine Grandchildren, Lamont Harris, Vaune Johnson, Chandra Johnson, Donte Walker, Allie Waye-Walker, Christine Walker, Richard Walker, Jr. and Shardia Walker. Twelve Great Grand Children, Olivia, Melony & Andre Johnson, Laila, Brianna & Tyrell Johnson, Hezikai, Kaiasia & Zy Harris; Madison Rochester, McKenzie Walker & Maya Ehioha.

Two sisters’ in law – Cynthia Mays and Patricia Brown, God Daughter, Kirstin Lindsey. A host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Close family friends Tom & Rosa Gross.

He was preceded in death by 3 sisters, Pearl Johnson, Gertrude Hynson and Mary Whitehead. One grandson JaWan Harris.
