Thomas Donald Unruh of Chestertown, MD died on June 17, at his home surrounded by his family. He was 69. He was born in Chestertown, MD on November 9, 1950, the son of Donald L. and Theresa Mann Unruh. He was a 1969 graduate of Chestertown High School and was married to Patricia Ann Gsell on July 10, 1970 in Still Pond, MD.

Tommy entered the U.S. Army in 1969. He was a Vietnam Veteran and was honorably discharged in 1971.

Tommy was owner and operator of Unruh Excavating since 1986, prior to that he worked with his father at D.L. Unruh & Son. He was a 18 year board member of Kent Soil & Water Conservation District, where he served as Board President for three years. He was also a member of the Land Improvement Contractors Association.

He enjoyed tractor pulling, traveling, spending time with his family, and his daily breakfast crew.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children: Amy Unruh Miller and her husband Dave of Abingdon, MD and Melissa Ann Roark of Smyrna, DE, grandchildren: Taylor Miller, Ryan Miller, Maddox Roark, and Delaney Roark.

He is also survived by his siblings: Richard Unruh of Chestertown, MD, Joseph Unruh and his wife Cecil of Chestertown, MD, Barbara Wyman and her husband Jim of King George, VA, and Cathy Cole and her husband Brian of Chestertown, MD. One sister, the late Beverly Unruh predeceased him.

Services will be held on Saturday, June 20, 2020 at 3:00 PM at Fellows, Helfenbein, and Newnam Funeral Home, 130 Speer Road, Chestertown, where relatives and friends may call from 1:00-3:00 PM. Interment will be held privately in Chester Cemetery.
