The number of COVID-19 infections attributed to the Resorts at Chester River Manor appears to be under-reported on the state’s website.
The state site attributed to aggregate living facilities is updated once a week on Wednesdays at 10 a.m., whereas the state totals are updated daily.

Current state reporting on COVID-19 cases at Resorts at Chester River Manor in Chestertown
Currently, the site indicates one staffer and five residents at the Resorts at Chester River Manor have been infected and no deaths are reported at this time. But last week the Kent Pilot confirmed 11 cases at the facility with one resident death and one infected staffer.
As of today, May 8, Chester River Manor has actually documented 17 cases of the disease — of which two cases are attributed to staff members. Two residents have died. This represents almost three times the number of cases the state is reporting for the facility.
The state data on nursing homes was set up to identify hot spots at specific facilities.
Kent Health Officer William Webb did not respond to a request for comment by the time this story ran.
This facility needs increased surveillance either through the state Ombudsman or Md Agency for Health Care. If they are not accurately reporting the positive cases, what else are they NOT reporting…..These are our Kent County Elderly placed in their care who apparently are not being treated with the dignity and respect they deserve.
Dear Mr. Curley:
Thank you for reading and commenting. The issue here appears one of timeliness and accuracy of reporting at the State level, not the facility level. We will continue to follow this important issue.
