Wild Rockfish with Lump Crab meat.

The Kitchen at the Imperial is back open for dinner seven days a week. The Kitchen offers award winning casual fine dining in the heart of the historic district. Dinner hours are 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

This week is an especially good time to return to dining downtown. On Friday, October 2, First Friday will return. On Saturday, October 3, The Kitchen hosts Chestertown Al Fresco from 5 p.m. to 9 pm. That event will include music by Pres Harding from the Imperial’s second floor porch. Music is made possible with funding by the Chestertown A&E District through a grant from the Maryland Arts Council.

If you are in the mood for seafood, chef/owner Steve Quigg offers his popular Wild Rockfish stuffed with Jumbo Lump Crab to please diners looking for a local catch. In addition to butter poached lump crab meat, the entrée is served with Redman Farms’ yellow and green squash and accented with fennel-infused buere blanc.

Another seafood winner is the Panko Crusted Catfish. Local Blue Catfish is coated in Panko, fried to a crispy finish and served with Black Bean Salsa made with Redman Farm sweet corn and heirloom cherry tomatoes from Coops and Crops Farms.

UPDATE: Steve Quigg announced after publication that the Panko Crusted Catfish is off the menu, but Parmesan-encrusted Swordfish is on.

The Kitchen’s Bacon-Wrapped Stuff Brook Trout is another seafood winner. Brook Trout is filled with glazed onion marmalade stuffing and rosemary balsamic cream sauce drizzled on top, with local vegetables and smashed potatoes served on the side.

Of course, there is the reliable Kitchen Crab Cakes. The restaurant was voted Best Crab Cake by What’s Up Eastern Shore Magazine in 2017 and 2018 and by Best Crab Cake by Chesapeake Bay Magazine in 2019. You can order a crab cake platter or pair with a beef tenderloin filet.

“I am looking forward to returning to the full week’s schedule,” Quigg remarked. “My staff is back and ready to deliver an outstanding dining experience to our customers.”

In addition to seven days of dinner service, The Kitchen at the Imperial will be open for lunch Friday and Saturday (11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.) and Sunday Brunch (10 a.m. to 3 p.m.).
